Dear Senator Stevens and Representative Seaton: Alaska Board of Game candidate Mr. Al Barrette should NOT be confirmed by the Legislature. I have just watched a video interview (link below) in which Mr. Barrette expressed his philosophy on wildlife management by quoting from the Book of Genesis, and with all due respect to religion and the Bible, Alaska's wildlife needs to be managed based upon sound science, not according to the Book of Genesis. I have no confidence and neither should you that Mr. Barrette has the ability to exercise good judgment when making decisions about the management of Alaska's wildlife. Additionally, I also consider Mr. Barrett's appointment to the Board of Game a conflict of interest, since Mr. Barrette's business (Fairbanks Fur Tannery) could benefit through more liberalized trapping regulations. Lastly, I am disappointed by Governor Parnell's decision to appoint Mr. Barrette. Mr. Barrette's appointment represents more of the same extremist trapping and hunting value systems on a board that is supposed to represent ALL Alaskans. There are currently no non-consumptive users on the BOG, despite the fact that most people in Alaska don't hunt. We need to have a Board of Game that more accurate reflects the wildlife values and positions of the majority of Alaskans. Again, I ask you to OPPOSE the confirmation of Mr. Barrette to the Board of Game. Thanks for your consideration of the above. Dave Bachrach, Homer |
