AWA Lawsuit Stops Wolf Bounty

Background

In the early spring of 2007 Governor Sarah Palin and Alaska Department of Fish and Game head Denby Lloyd announced a wolf bounty system effective in over 60,000 square miles of Alaska that would give a $150 bounty to the state sanctioned airborne wolf hunters as an added incentive to increase their kills. This clearly violated existing regulations and still provided no creditable scientific justification for such an extreme program.

What AWA Has Done

The AWA teamed with two other conservation organizations and filed suit to bring the bounty program to a screeching halt. The Alaska State Court sided with the plaintiffs and put an immediate stop to the program. No doubt next winter will find the AWA fighting the next round of creative efforts to decimate Alaska’s wolves.

What You Can Do

You can be an important part of the fight for Alaska’s wolves with your donation to the AWA wolf fund and your letters to the Governor letting her know that decimating one species in order to artificially another is not the scientifically sound management Alaskans and all Americans expect. Your letters to the editor will also keep the fight for Alaska’s wolves alive in the minds of Alaska’s voters.
