Alaska is America’s last great wilderness, home to a unique and spectacular array of aquatic and terrestrial wildlife species. The Alaska Wildlife Alliance advocates for healthy ecosystems, scientifically and ethically managed to protect our wildlife for present and future generations.
In the summer of 2018, over 2,000 harbor and grey seals stranded along the Gulf of Maine coast due to a viral infection. Risk of a similar viral infection has become a growing concern among North Pacific marine species that are susceptible to similar pathogens. It is imperative to understand the presence and migration of viruses into naive environments.
