Consultant Grant Writer

30 hours per month, $25 per hour

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Grant Writer is responsible for actively supporting the fund development and cultivation activities of AWA. The successful candidate will be able to craft funding proposals and reports in a clear and compelling manner. Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and highly organized, and have experience using online foundation databases. The Grant Writer works closely with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to identify, solicit and steward grants in support of AWA’s mission. This includes but is not limited to assisting in the annual appeal, major gift solicitation, writing grants and reports, and building development pipelines and planned giving. The Grant Writer will be based in Alaska, working remotely.

  • Determine proposal concept, understanding strategic goals of project, identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, and studying requests for proposal

  • Meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval and transmittal

  • Develop proposals by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance and evaluation

  • Write, revise and edit drafts including executive summaries, conclusions and organization credentials

  • Assist the Executive Director in developing templates and proposal-writing standards

  • Improve proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach and coordination


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in successful grant writing, prospect research, budgeting, and grant-based project management

  • Strong desk research skills, ability to utilize FoundationSearch database for outreach and donor tracking

  • Excellent written skills

  • Network and experience working with foundations

  • A self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team or independently depending on the project

  • Ability to thrive in a start-up environment

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

  • Cultural competency to work with a diverse range of people

Consultant Outreach Coordinator

30 hours per month, $20 per hour

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Outreach Coordinator will facilitate community engagement with Alaska Wildlife Alliance’s mission and programs.

Responsibilities include

  • Coordinating and facilitating monthly Wildlife Wednesday educational programs. This includes finding and scheduling speakers, scheduling event space (virtual and in-person), preparing and hosting each event, developing flyers and marketing events online, and securing event sponsors

  • Engaging with community members, volunteers, and organizational partners to increase participation in citizen science projects

  • Membership outreach, which includes writing thank you notes to donors, building membership benefits, and assisting in developing annual mailers, annual reports, member calendars and other engagement. This may also include tabling and managing volunteers to table at fairs and events (Covid dependent).

  • Supporting organizational communications. This includes drafting and scheduling social media posts, creating digital event invitations, digitally archiving organizational publications, and writing blogs with SEO maximization.

  • Explore new partnerships and opportunities for community engagement across Alaska.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in Alaska, particularly on community projects and grassroots mobilization

  • Excellent people skills and a passion for wildlife

  • Ability to write succinctly on a breadth of wildlife topics

  • Experience in developing visual content and social media postings. Candidate will develop visuals through our online Canva platform

  • Familiarity with video conferencing platforms such as Zoom

  • Experience with Squarespace is a plus

  • Ability to thrive in a start-up environment

  • Track-record of successful communications or marketing work

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

  • Cultural competency to work with a diverse range of people

  • Excellent listening and retention skills

  • A self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team or independently depending on the project
