Every year, Alaska Wildlife Alliance invites photographers from around the world to share their best wildlife photographs—and the 13 winning images come together in our 2027 Alaska Wildlife Calendar. More than just a way to celebrate wildlife, the calendar is a fundraiser; photographers generously donate their winning photographs, and proceeds from calendar sales directly support our programs and efforts to protect Alaska’s wildlife.
Each month features a different photograph, accompanied by a short description and fun facts or insights from the photographer and AWA staff. From the iconic brown bears to Alaska’s lesser-known creatures, the calendar highlights the diversity of wildlife found throughout Alaska.
Now it’s your turn to help us create the 2027 calendar!
Thirteen winning photographs will be featured in Alaska Wildlife Alliance’s 2027 Wildlife Calendar. The contest opens September 8th. Submit up to three wildlife photos to emily@akwildlife.org by midnight September 22nd.
After submissions close, the public will have a chance to vote for their favorite photographs by “liking” them on the Alaska Wildlife Alliance’s Facebook page. The photos receiving the most likes will advance as finalists. AWA staff will then select the 13 winning photographs, considering photo quality, creativity, wildlife diversity, and humor.

Photo Submission Guidelines
To submit your photographs, please follow these guidelines:
Photographs must feature wildlife that was ethically photographed in Alaska.
Photographs must be your own original work. Please do not submit images found online, including Google Images or copyrighted photographs taken by someone else.
Photos must be high resolution and in landscape orientation. Winning photographs will be printed in a large-format calendar, so high-quality images are strongly preferred.
Include your name and a brief description of your photograph. Tell us where the photo was taken and, if you’d like, share a short story about the scene. Please keep your description to 2–3 sentences.
Show us Alaska’s wildlife diversity! We love seeing Alaska’s iconic wildlife, but we also want to celebrate the incredible diversity of species found throughout our state. Bears and moose are always popular subjects, so we especially encourage you to submit photographs featuring Alaska’s lesser-seen and underrepresented wildlife.
Submit no more than three photographs per person.
What Do Winners Receive?
Each of the 13 winners will receive two complimentary copies of the 2027 Alaska Wildlife Calendar and the opportunity to share their incredible photograph with wildlife lovers throughout Alaska and beyond.
Calendar sales help support the Alaska Wildlife Alliance’s work to protect Alaska’s wildlife and wild places, while also providing a special way to thank and celebrate our members and supporters.
A note on photo usage: AWA will receive usage rights for winning photographs. These photographs will be considered donations and will be used for future AWA promotional purposes. Photographer credit will be given during use.
Your photograph could help tell the story of Alaska’s wild places—and help ensure Alaska’s wildlife continues thrive.
Thank you for participating, and good luck!
