AWA’s 2025 Annual Report
Another year of protecting Alaska’s wildlife has somehow come and gone, and we have our Annual Report to prove it. 2025 was marked by tremendous victories and heartbreaking pivots, from securing trapping setbacks in the Mat-Su Valley to watching Board of Game pass an aerial bear gunning program outside Denali National Park despite over 18,000 comments in opposition. Tens of thousands of grant dollars for our climate adaptation work were frozen by Executive Order and just weeks later, we won a landmark lawsuit and subsequent injunction against the State for Mulchatna bears. We published a Vulnerability Assessment for Hooper Bay (the first of its kind for villages in the area), continued our work to quantify the hydrological impacts of beavers on the Kenai, and screened A Good Wolf in Anchorage to over 200 people.
